“White people have recessive genes” that’s what I have heard one too many times from people in the community and by one too many times I mean once it is like race has turned smart Black people into third graders fighting over there genes like they where monkey bars. It is just silly to think that what they are preaching and all it’s similarities to Hitler is okay to think. You are different from white people but you are not dominate. The end of World War II was the end of that thinking about race and biology. We have seen death in mass camps and we have current examples people finally getting their justice like the poor whites of North Carolina that were sterilized because they were seen as unfit by other white people. That’s what I don’t like about this Blacks have dominate genes and White have recessive genes conversations that I seem to be drawn to, like Martin Luther King Jr. To a political event in Memphis, because the flip side of that is that maybe white people should just be killed off because they are not on our level. It is ridiculous to think that whites have recessive genes and I will be damned if a white person thought like that about black people, even in private. Why should any Black person tolerate this kind of speech from each other? These pseudo scientist and conspiracy theorist that think that whites are afraid to lose their racial purity and that is to blame for the ills of the world needs to stop. Racism does exist but making your humanity more valuable than the next mans is not the way to end it.
Race is a social construction white people have genes black people have genes we look like we do because of adaptations over 100,000 years of humanity. Nothing is different about our bodies to make any task that can be done by a white man be done better by a black man and vice a versa. I believe in biological equality and I also believe in race is great to have you can be proud to be Italian without me having to sacrifice my pride in being Black but with conversations about dominate and recessive it takes away from us focusing on doing good for people that look like us and turning our very skin color into some kind of turf that people are struggling for like the last seat on the back of the school bus.
These conversations have made me think more and more about the things that I don’t like, things that I know are big road blocks to ending racism. Next time you hear that another race is anything less than yours call that person out the human races needs you.
